María Cecilia Muñoz, flute, was born in Buenos Aires in 1982. Already at age 5 she had begun her musical development. At age nine she entered the Conservatorio de Música Julián Aguirre. In 2000 she completed her studies at the conservatory with the flute instructor Adriana Rodriguez. She began her studies with Felix Renggli at the Music Academy of Basel in 2001. In the summer of 2005 she received her teaching and performance diplomas and in 2007, with the soloist diploma, she successfully completed her studies.

She complemented her training by taking part as an active participant in masterclasses with the following teachers: Aurèle Nicolet (Switzerland), Peter Lukas Graff (Switzerland), Barthold Kuijken (Belgium), Lars Nilsson (Sweden), Angela Jones Reus (USA), Ramson Wilson (USA), José Ananias Souza Lopez (Brazil), Sophie Cherrier (France) and Ensemble Intercontemporain (Lucerne Festival Academy). In 2010 she won the first grand prize in the "2nd Beijing Nicolet International Flute Competition" China and the 3rd prize in the "4th Carl Nielsen International Flute Compeittion" in Odense, Denmark; in 2008 the second prize in the "3th International Aeolus Wind Competition" in Düsseldorf, Germany, receiving first place in the Flute category, in 2007 she was awarded the first prize in the "37th International Jeunesses Musicales Competition, Belgrade", and the first prize in the "1st Crusell International Flute Competition, Finland".

In 2002 she won the first prize in the "24 ème Concours national d`execution musical pour la jeunesse" in Riddes, Switzerland, in 2001 the 2nd prize in the 13th International Youth Competition of the Teatro del Libertador Foundation in Córdoba and in 2000 won the 3rd prize in the same competition. In March 2000 she received a grant from the Alberto Lysy Foundation for study in the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. In 2002 and 2003 the grant from the Antorchas Foudation and in 2004 the "Teresa Grüneisen" grant from the Mozarteum Foundation of Argentina.

In December 2005 she received a study grant from the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bundes. 2006 followed with the study grant of the Swiss Musicians Union and the Kiefer-Hablitzel Foundation, the Basler Orchester-Gesellschaft prize, the Friedl Wald Foundation prize, and once again the study grant from the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bundes. She has appeared as a soloist with the following ensembles: In Europe - Sinfonieorchester Basel, Kammerorchester Basel, Orchestre Symphonique du Jura, "La Sinfonietta" Orchestra of Geneva, all in Switzerland; Nürnberger Symphonikern, Düsseldorfer Symphonikern Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig and Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein, Germany, Saint-Petersburg Cappella Symphony Orchestra, Russia, St.George's Strings, Belgrade, Belgrade String Orchestra, Serbia, Virtuosi di Kuhmo Chamber Orchestra, Finland; and in Argentina - Orquesta Sinfónica de Salta and Entre Ríos, Orquesta Sinfónica of the Radio and Television, Orquesta de Cámara de Lanús and the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Libertador San Martín, etc. Likewise, she has had opportunities to perform under the direction of renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös and Heinz Holliger, among others. She has been a member of the Libertador San Martín Symphony Orchestra of Buenos Aires, Neues Orchester Basel, Kammerorchester Basel, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra (Dir. Pierre Boulez) and Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra.

She is currently principal flute of the Sinfonieorchester Jura, substitute with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and she collaborates with the Kammerorchester Basel and the Camerata Bern. In the field of contemporary music she has collaborated with the Ensemble Contrechamps from Geneva and from 2002 to 2004 she was a member of the "Guernica Ensemble" which was invited to perform H. W. Henze's "El Cimarron" in the summer festival in the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the Festival International Cervantino, Mexico. She is currently a member of the new music ensemble "Laboratorium" with whom she has performed at the Reina Sofia's Auditorium 400, at the Lucerne Festival, at the Tonhalle Zürich in the Festival for New Music of Zürich, Festival for Contemporary Music of Santiago, Chile, among others, doing many commissions of young composers and performing a number of premieres.
